Senior maiko kiku kanzashi by elblack Senior maiko kiku kanzashi by elblack
Another "can't believe I've made it" :wow:
103 petals, a work worth of few days. But I just had to do it before the end of October. :love:

Hand dyed silk, tassel and the hair fork are as well handmade :dalove:

I'm so proud of myself :D

When put in the hair it looks so Mucha-esque :aww:

How do you like it?

:bulletpurple:Measurements::bulletpurple:
flower: 9 cm / 3.54 inch in diameter
hair fork: 11.5 cm / 4.52 inch
tassel: 18 cm / 7.08 inch long

It's a technique called "tsumami hana kanzashi" it's from small squares of silk, starched, then folded to shape one petal :aww:

That's something I can tell you very well :aww:

It's from the company "Altin Basak" And the details of the string are: 6 KAT, Kirlangic, polyester dantel ipligi, number 50, (I suppose that some of the words are in turkish since it's a turkish company)

Hmm... How a bout a normal string? There should be something like that in the shops somewhere...

I don't remember: did I ask you what kind of glue are you using?

I see...

well... not yet...
I use multi purpose glue called UHU
it's very popular here.

That's so short! and is it really sticky for your hands when you glue? I like to set my petals with my hands- it helps a lot but if your glue sets so fast...

ahaha...
you still can re-arrange it in several hours period...
but in approximately 1 mins, it will keep the shape up~
ahaha

So what about first making the petals, let them dry and at the very end glue them to the string? (I hope that it make sense?)

Oh my gosh! That looks so complicated. @_@ But so beautiful! You should be absolutely pleased with this. It's really gorgeous. Words can't describe this. :nod: Let's just say that it's superbly specular! I love the colours, too. They match perfectly. :heart: You make me want to try this art myself, but I wouldn't even know where to start. I think I'll stick to watching you do your amazing work for now. :D If I had the money...your whole stock would be sold out. :giggle: Maybe if I pleaded my parents...but postage seems expensive. Well, someday and somehow I wish to purchase your gorgeous kanzashi. :love: Wow, sorry for the rant. ^^;

Thank you! :huggle:

Yeah- for this one it is, bit I want to add additional insurance and stuff, because the piece itself is quite valuable and I wouldn't like to have it lost in the post... ^^;

I was like that at the beginning too! My work on kanzashi started form observing, reading plenty of tutorials about it and of course buying needed stuff, and after almost half a year I've started to create myself ^^

That's totally understandable. You wouldn't want something to just get lost after all that hard work to make it! Better safe than sorry, as they say. :D

You're right. When we try something new, we can't just master it so easily. I used to be SO bad at Photoshop. I couldn't even do the simplest of controls. I might just try kanzashi one day, if I'm able to gather all the materials and put my lazy mind to it. ^_^ Thanks for the encouragement. I find your story very inspiring. :heart:

You cannot imagine how much at ease registered packages make me now- because of the delays in USPS I don't have to worry too much that the package disappeared, because I can track it through the internet and I can give all the possible informations to my customers which are waiting for it.

Your work is amazing =) I found instructions to the basic flower yesterday and tried it with some satin i had left over , and it´s really not that easy to make it symmetric! If i make some worth publishing I´ll link your profile, because your work made me try..

Satin is pretty tricky- try something like cotton- should be much easier ;)

Good luck and I would love to see your results! :aww:

Thant's so true! And it's so good to describe kanzashi making in generall- you need a lot of boring work for preparations, but the result is always worth it. :aww:

You mean how deep is the flower? 3.5 cm / 1.37 inch

Suprisingly, when it's put in the bun (long hair needed ^^;) it doesn't stick at all (just stays where it should ;)) :aww: And I simply love how the tassel moves from your back to the front- it looks so cute! :love:
