Description

Yaezakura is a double layered cherry blossom flower. It is known in Japan for its beauty and strength. Each year in Japan it attracts thousands of people that visit the parks and gardens to see their beauty.

It is popular in Japan to have a picnic under the blooming trees which is called Hana-mi (Flower viewing).

The flowers were made following traditional Japanese art called tsumami hana kanzashi. This means that every petal is starched, hand dyed and cut out of silk in the square shape and each one of them is painted separately to create ombre shade. The squares are then folded and assembled to form a single petal. I strive to be as accurate to the traditional way of making kanzashi, so I always use habutae silk and rice glue.
